Samuel Cox House

Samuel Cox House
This charming small home was built about 1800 by Samuel Cox in the western part of Bertie County. Its architectural style has been termed ''the typical North Carolina farm house.'' An enclosed stair leads from its main room to two under the eaves bedrooms. The first floor rooms have wainscoting and over mantel paneling. The house was given to Hope by the late Mrs. Paul Jilcott and her children and was moved to the Hope Plantation property in 1970.

The house has served as a caretaker's residence since its restoration.
